manual to auto tranny in 83, need crossmember info

I have an 83 Blazer fullsize that originally had the 700R4 in it. The previous owner put a 4 speed granny manual in and now I'm trying to switch it back to 700R4. But the crossmember doesn't line up...the one I have is flat but the one I need is shaped like a W. I'm having trouble finding one, so I need to know the last year this crossmember was used in blazers/trucks so that I can go to a dealership and get a newer one. I tried to get one for an 83 but they said it was discontinued..so what is the latest year model I could ask for.

Re: manual to auto tranny in 83, need crossmember info

Thats strange, the W shaped crossmember was used (at least on pickups) until '87, blazers/suburbans should have it until '91. Did he say discontinued or not available? I had a GM parts guy tell me that what I wanted was discontinued so he couldn't get it for me. Went to another GM shop where I sort of knew the parts guy, and gave him the part number - yup sure enough discontinued, but they GM still carried them in stock at the warehouse - they just weren't making new ones. He ordered it in and I got it the next day. The other guy was just too lazy to punch it into their computer and see where one was available - they pull that crap all the time.

Your cheapest bet is a wrecking yard though.

THanks for the info. Hahahah, I've called every salvage yard in the state and nobody has it, except one place that wanted 100$ for it...I'll make one out of 2x4's before I pay that much. In fact, I'm going to do that tonight, until I can find a real one. I called a dealer and they could order one for a 91, so if you think that will work then I guess I'll go ahead and have them order me one. thanks again.
