13mpg from a 427 TBI?

Is this possible? I was looking at a 94 tahoe with a '63 vette 427 motor. It had a tbi setup that had a customn burned chip that allowed for more fuel delivery. The truck has a beefed up stock overdrive tranny with 4.56 posi gears up front and rear. He claims that this truck gets 13 mpg around town. IS THIS POSSIBLE? Even with a mild cam I wouldnt think so. Help me out if you can. Should I buy this thing?

Don't know what the laws are there but I'd be afraid I wouldn't be able to smog it. Drivetrain upgrades would probably be necessary sooner or later as well. Big block with 1/2 ton drivetrain? Otherwise it sounds like a pretty killer ride.

Re: 13mpg from a 427 TBI?

Yes it in very possible. My 92 4X4 has a 408 Sb with TBI, and I get between 12 and 15 MPG. The chip is the key, and a well thought out combo can make the world of difference. Another engine I built was a 418, with a solid roller under a TPI. It is in a 88 Firebird that gets 17-22 MPG. (17 at 100 mph! REALLY!!) My only question is a 427 from a 63 Vette? I don't think that the 427 was made until around 66 or 67.
