starter questions

I just got my truck re-wired now when i go to start it the starter continues to go until i disconnect the battery. But does not start untill i hit the switch. What am i missing?
The truck is a 85 with a 350 and 700r4, Did this have a computer of any kind? The starter has a power lead and one to activate the starter.

thanks for the help

Re: starter questions

I dont know if it has a computer but to check, just open the glovebox door a little so you can see behind it and you will see a metal box with a bunch af wires going into it. that would be the computer. I dont know what would cause the starter to do that though.

Re: starter questions

Sounds to me like a bad solinoid on the starter. complete starters for chevys are usually cheap if you plan on keeping I would replace it.

Re: starter questions

Update on this tested the starter and no problems...could it be that I shimmed it wrong? How much gap do I need?

Thanks
