305/70R16 without a lift

Been meaning to post this for a couple of days & saw reference in another thread, so here goes. Saw a 1/2 ton Chevy on the stock rims. The truck was somewhere between a '94 & '98 (had the newer grill & the newer style 5-spoke alloy wheels with the solid center cap) & was unlifted. The guy had a set of 305/70R16 Goodyear AT/S tires & it appeared to fit those just fine. Basically the same height as 285's, but wider. Looked real nice .

Re: 305/70R16 without a lift

Did it look like those tires had a good contact patch? My 285/75's on stock rims on my unlifted '95z71 fit fine, but seems like the tire balloons a little more than the 265's. Curious if the 305's being wider would have a difficult time planting the entire width of the tread on the ground given the "skinny" stock rim width.....

Thanks for the update though...

Re: 305/70R16 without a lift

Yes they fit, I know a guy that has them on his stock Z71 alloy wheels. But here are the top 5 reasons why you don't want them!.
#5 They do balloon badly.
#4 They don't LOOK right.
#3 You have to run a lower air pressure (so your fuel economy suffers)
#2 They are "Goodyear" tires! and they have a wimpy street tire tread pattern (have you ever had goodyear tires?)

And the number one reason you don't want them!!!!!

#1 They are not BF Goodrich

Paaaleeeeeezzzzzz!!! BFG AT/ko's are WAY better!
They have a triple sidewall,
They fit way better (285/75),
They have better much more aggressive tread, (its so aggressive it is attacking the sidewall)
They will last longer,
Air & Water will be cleaner,
Food will taste better,
They add 5years to your life,
Sex will be better,
Young women will be attracted to you,
Birds will sing when you drive by,
Your children will receive scholarships!
oops... the last 7 promises where stolen from gore/clinton

Re: 305/70R16 without a lift

I Wish !!!! That would be kuel!
My first act would be to get them to make the MT in a 315/75!
And then maybe we could address the whole fixed pricing deal! (and give a discount to any Off-road.com or ColoradoK5.com member)

One thing I can say is they have never let me down or disappointed me!
BFG tires and Sears Craftsmen handtools, I can't say enough good about them!

Re: 305/70R16 without a lift

Maybe you could get them to make a real agressive tire like the Bogger except it has a smooth radial ride and have it be strong like a bias.

Also, MORE 16" SIZES!!!

I want to get 38" radials thats wider than 12.5" with a 16" rim and theres not too many choices out there.

Re: 305/70R16 without a lift

Hey Tex, they work just fine and don't rub at all. I had them on my Sport before I lifed it on the stock 97 Directional rims. I have atached a pic of the tires on the truck and to tell you the truth, I think they looked really good (better than my BFG KO's that I had on my 99 Z71) Now as far as tread life I put 20K on them before I lifted the truck, then I sold them to my best friend who has a 96 Z71. He has put almost 40K on them and they still have alot of tread left and neither of us have ever had a problem with them. The ATS's are a great tire.

Re: 305/70R16 without a lift

Tex-

I have a friend that put them on his 97 Z71. He took them off within a month. You have to crank the bars, even then under a moderate dip. THEY RUB HARD! He put on BFG 285/75/16's. Goodyears are soft tread, they tend to wear out alot quicker as well. I had a set of GSA's on my 94 about 4 years ago, ever since I have had BFG's. Better tire, better life, less money. If BFG would only make a tire over 35", I'd be set!!
