Extreme Machines 4x4 episode...

A guy on the Jeep board says that the 4x4 episode of "Extreme Machines" is on TLC (The Learning Channel) tonight, 8pm pacific. If you guys haven't seen it, it's definately worth watching. Rockcrawling, the Antarctic expedition, bad ass hillclimbing in Iceland, and other cool stuff. Some if it is dumbed down for the masses, but it's still worth checking out. Replays at 11pm or so also.

I sort of prefer the Team Macpherson desert race truck Although the other things are cool also...

I saw that show, it kicked ass. My favorite part was the rock crawling jeeps, I think it would be fun to get one of them...
Oh well.

Great show, I watch it every time that it comes on. My favorite part is when they reinflate the tires on the toyotas. I know its dangerous, but it is still really cool all the same.

I was particularly fascinated with the vehicles that are able to skip across the top of the water for several hundred feet.

I saw that last night at 11pm. I dont understand how they inflated that tire. I saw them put lighter fluid on it, shoot a flame at it, and bam...it was on the rim. Anyone care to explain?

Tim

I live in San Diego. I remember going to high school with kids of MacPherson. They always brought their tricked out late model chevy to school. (WAY COOL!!) I personally prefer the truck Ragland had before this new "thing" he drives. V6?? What's that? Sounds like Larry is wanting to go to the glue factory early.

Re: Extreme Machines 4x4 episode...

84, they fogged the ether INSIDE of the tire first, on the inside of the rim. When they use the can as a flamethrower, it ignites the ether fumes floating around inside of the tire, causing what is essentially a small explosion. This forces the tire bead back onto the rim, and puts enough pressure in the tire to make it stay seated. It doesn't catch fire because the explosion uses up all of the oxygen in the tire, so the flame basically starves. Understand? What goes without saying is do not try this at home!
