good asking price for broke 700r4?

A boy at school offered to buy my old 700r4, what is a good asking price for the piece of [censored]? keep in mind that the overdrive is gone, it slips like hell, and the olny way to make it shift is to manually shift it. This boy wants to rebuild it, and put it in his '77 stepside that has a 6" suspension lift and 38.5 boggers. He thinks it is a good deal since the tranny he has right now has the tach at 3000 while running 65mph.

Re: good asking price for broke 700r4?

Find out what a typical core charge is for a 700r4, then ask that, or maybe a LITTLE bit more. That's what's FAIR, but you could ask more for it if you include the torque converter and such.

I was eye-ballin' some to rebuild myself. I found a place local that sells complete cores for $150, or $250 for a guarantee on all the hard parts.

I appreciate the help? I sure will be glad to get that boat anchor out of the yard.

Re: good asking price for broke 700r4?

I have two 700R4 boat anchors myself and I have done alot of calling around to see if someone would take them off of my hands for a few bucks. The average was "hell no!!" and a few said 35 bucks. Core charge is $100 to $200 usually, but that is only if your buying what they are sellin' !!

You could be a really good guy and just give it to him,or since it sounds like maybe he's a school kid let him do something around your house for it.
