203 or 205?

Do all 205's have a slip-in rear yoke, what is the best external way to tell them apart? Thanks, Robert.

Re: 203 or 205?

No the early ones had bolt on yokes., The NP205 is a 1pc case with the 2 shift rails protruding from the front side of the case above the front yoke. The NP203 is a 2pc case with the shifter boss coming out on the passenger side just behind the transmission coupling.

Hope this helps
KJ

Re: 203 or 205?

Thanks KJ. It sounds like one of my transfer cases that I thought was a 203, must be an early 205. It has two
plunger type shift controls pointing forward on the passenger side above the yoke, like you described. I wasn't sure if it was a 203 that had been converted to part-time, or what. Thank you for your reply.

That is exactly what mine looks like, hooked to an sm465. That is nice to know. Supposedly they are a little stronger.

Re: 203 or 205?

also the 205 will have a circular cover held on by 3 bolts in the middle of the back
