New Cams, work without chips?

Ive been looking at cams and what not, and pondered how they work in conjunction with a computer controlled engine. Do you need a chip to work with the new chip, or does it work fine without mods?

Re: New Cams, work without chips?

comp cams 249 cam works just fine in tbi engines. this cam is only slightly difrent than stock. i dont know what the difrence is. could be lobe seperation lift.

i do know in 4low crawling at an idle with my foot as far from the throttle as possible it acted like bigger cam. started lopeing under a load. but were talkin about rpms between 500-800 sometimes even less.

it did realy well crawling with this came, but the stock cam did better. id hasve to keep tabs on the throttle more often with the 249 cam than the stock.

cant tell you what kinda power difrence over the stock cam because i built a motor useing that cam and dropped it in place of the stock 300k plus motor.

I have a Comp 12-249-4 also. It lopes a little more than stock at idle, and sounds great in general, but I haven't really got it wide open yet because my motor only has about 175 miles on it. I would recommend it for computer use.
