Broken teeth in front axle

Well I went to replace the front axle seals in my truck and found some broken tabs/teeth? I don't quite understand what they are for as they don't seem to mate into anything (see picture). Don't know where to find these parts at. Any help would be great. Think I will probably take the whole front out and split it and see if I find anymore damage. Debating on whether I should replace the gears while I have it out or not... I currently have 3.73 and would like to have 4.56Ö but I donít know if I want to go for the expense of replacing the front and rear (I know if I do one I have to do the other)Ö.

Re: Broken teeth in front axle

Is that the pside? If so, my guess would be, and I couldn't see the pics too well, my guess would be the gears that lock in when the actuator and switch are extended.

Re: Broken teeth in front axle

Yes that is the pside, i will see if i can take a better picture. there is a small shaft that goes in that hole and those teeth are then covered by that shaft. The shaft does not seem to engage in those teeth.
