shutter when tranny shifts into second

Hi everyone,

My 2000 Z71 with a 5.3, auto tranny gets a bit of a shutter when it shifts into second. Now its only doing it on hard accelerations. When I accelerate off the line and get the RPM's up around 3500 or 4000 is when it does it. Other than that its smooth.
Any thoughts on this.........is my tranny on its way out or could a fluid change maybe fix this?

Thanking everyone in advance.

A fluid and filter change can't hurt it. If you've got a lot of miles on it, go ahead and change it and see how it does.

Is this when in "tow" mode or not?

They do shift firmly when in tow mode....

Re: shutter when tranny shifts into second

No its not when its in tow mode...........and its not just a hard shift into 2nd........it shifts into 2nd but there is a shutter for about a second just as it goes into 2nd..........again it only does this when on the throttle hard.

Might just try thr fluid and filter change as shorts suggested.........hopefully that cures it.

My buddy has a 2001 Tahoe that did the same thing and the prblem was that he had it is 4hiauto in stead of 2 hi. When he changed it back to to 2 hi the problem went away

Mine is in 2hi.........at least the light is indicating that.
I will switch it into 4 wheel drive and back again acouple of times...........maybe that will do the trick.

Re: shutter when tranny shifts into second

probably something making the shift soilenoid not function properly. change the fluid and filter. you might consider using a flush kit. one bottle of solvent goes into the fluid and you run it for the requitred amt of time. the change fluid and filter. add the second bottle to the new fluid. many of these detergents work well to free up sticking servos and solenoids
