Hey guys, my dad just bought a 94 1/2 ton with a 6.5L in it he is going to part out. The truck has a 6 lug 14 bolt in it that I would like to take out and put under my 95' Tahoe. The truck has 260,000 miles on it but the axle is free if I want it. If it has the same gears as my Tahoe is this a pretty straight forward swap. My truck is my one and only vehicle and a weekend is all the time I would have to do this. What do you think, is it worth it?

Do a search for 14 SF Swap there have been plenty of recent topics on this. I think all you will need is a conversion u-joint.

Definitely! You just need a conversion U-joint, and either a ORU U-bolt reversal kit or new U-bolts & axle cups. The E-brake should be pretty straight forward. Hopefully it's in good enough shape that you can use it how it is!

tear it apart and flush it out. and toss new seals in it. along with new brake shoes.

wouldnt hurt anything and save you time later.

Well, when it says "in the works" in my signature, that actually means that I tore it apart & am saving money to get all the goodies I want for it. First on the list: powdercoating. I'm pretty sure I have a bad axle shaft in my current axle, but I don't want to spend the $ to get a new one, so I'd better move fast! [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wall.gif[/img]

Powdercoat? Can you get it done cheap? I don't have any hook ups with paint but I used a primer and black Rustoleaum and it looks great, even after getting real dirty it hoses right off. And its cheap.

$150, not exactly cheap, but I think it will be well worth it in the long run.
