So I need to get a cheap spare tire set up...

My old wheels were 6.5 inches wide, I was trying to hunt down a new rim thats 8" wide to match my new wheels for a spare tire.

Is this neccassary? Or can I put a 265 tire on a 6.5 wide wheel?

265s come from GM on 6.5" wide wheels, so yeah.

Something I noticed while I was ratting around in my shop...

I found some old 235/85 tires that I could probably drop on my old wheels as well...

Does the width difference really matter for spares?

width wont matter, but the 235x85 is probly taller than your 265x75.

i ran a set of 35x12.5s on my 6.5" wheels as spares aswell as the same size on all 4 corners of the truck. it wasnt worth it to have only 1 spare.

ive ruined countlerss tires as well as spares, you get alittle edgy when youve got both your spares mounted on the truck. and not 3rd to get you home if something goes wrong again.

35"s! Dang!

Ill probably mount two 235/85's then... if its relativly close I should have to worry about my crappy Eaton Gov Lock chewing itself up, should I?

Re: So I need to get a cheap spare tire set up...

My 93 K1500 came factory with 265/75R16's on it with the 6.5 inch rims. Also, your 235/85R16's are nearly identical to the 265's. A 235/85R16 tires diameter is 31.7" where your 265/75R16's come in at 31.6". 235's are narrower than the 265's but exactly the same height. Which would make it an ideal spare for a 4x4 truck running 265's.
