buckling noise coming from under my Suburban..

there is a 'buckling' noise coming from under the rear of my 99 suburban. It sounds sort of like a paint can buckling. It was first noticable only rarely after shutting it off. Now it does it more frequently while running. Any ideas?

Hmmm.. I hadn't considered that - It's got 80K on it. I'll keep an eye on it.

Also could be heat shields....they tend to "clink" as they heat/cool. Dads Ford clinks and pops like crazy when it is turned off after being operating temp...

Mufflers will tend to get thin walled as they get old....might be about ready to rust thru from the inside somewhere.
