Off-road.com selling email addresses?

I use an email address unique to every single website I sign up for anything on. For this place I use ORC ^@^ wrath ^dot^ com. I do this so I can track who gave out my email address.

Starting about a week ago I began getting hit heavily with spam (explicit pornography advertisements) to this email address.

There used to be a part in their Privacy Policy that said they would specifically not dole out users' email addresses. It is no longer in Rubicon Media Group's Privacy Policy.

The from line contains "<dictionary word> <middle initial>. <another dictionary word>".
For example, the ones so far today were:
Fermat U. Infields
Decentralization P. Wristwatch
Forefront O. Piano

So, is anyone else getting these emails?

<font face="Comic Sans MS">Well now I feel depressed because nobody thought enough of me to put my name on the list... Seriously though, I've not noticed any more spam getting to my email address than it did back in 99 or there abouts when I signed up... I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones... </font>

I haven't noticed any more spam. But then again, I don't even get the email notice from a post anymore

Re: Off-road.com selling email addresses?

selling the email addresses prob started about the same time they added the stupid popup ads to the site
I have the popup blocker now and a good spam catcher for my email so its all good. Maybe spam will die out some day. help solve the problem, dont click thru an ad/email ever, even if its got a hot chickkkkkkkkkkkk!!!

Re: Off-road.com selling email addresses?

Off-Road.com had never sold any email addresses. We did collect an opt-in list with the Free Video offer several months back but we have not even used that for internal purposes.

Thanks

Re: Off-road.com selling email addresses?

So... how did they get my email address? I don't have it viewable on my profile... and I certainly don't use the address anywhere else (that'd defeat the purpose).

Re: Off-road.com selling email addresses?

I get spam every now and then to my work email. I never use it for anything besides work, and for the most part none of the mail I send or receive goes any farther than the network we're on at work. I'm not sure how they get these email addresses, its almost as if they just guess.
