is it possible to install a supercharger on, say, a 454c.i. T.B.I chevy big-block? what kind of work/money/transmission problems am i lookin at here? any response appreciated

Yes it is possible but you are looking at lots of work for it to be reliable. You would want to rebuild your bottom end. A engine with alot of miles on it is use to its "normal" pressure. A stock tranny isn't built to handle a charger either. Sure you could buy the kit put it on and be happy as hell with it for a couple of months, BUT then you will start to notice a the problems that a charger will bring. I don't think all of this is worth it for only 4-6 lbs of boost. Keep it natural... ALL MOTOR! Only my thoughts, others might differ.
