help w/ front drive engaging on its own

When I'm driving down the highway and I can feel the hubs or front drive shaft suddenly trying to kick in, I hear a clunk. I was wondering what might cause something like that.

The switch in the transfer case might be bad. When it goes bad it has a habit of intermittently telling the front axle actuator to slide into 4wd.

Re: help w/ front drive engaging on its own

i am having the same problem on a s10 blazer the front shaft is trying to engage in 4x4 mode but the transfer case is not goin into 4x4. it makes a god awful grinding noise. so far i have replaced the transfer case and shift motor and still have the same problem.

at 1st it was doing this in 2wd but now for some reason it wont do it in 2wd and is doing the grinding in 4x4 now. i dont understand that.

has anyone experienced anything like this or know what the heck is wrong i am bout to give up.
