Re: axle shafts

the ten bolt got its bad rap because of the gov-loc
aka gov-bomb, not the shafts themselves, any axle will blow up when you try to feed steel through the ring and pinion, get rid of the gov-loc and you can ride with a little more confidence,

Re: axle shafts

In my old truck with 35's I went through 2 sets of spider gears in my 10 bolt, no gov-loc. All that would happen is the teeth would shear off. By the 2nd time I knew it was coming by the chatter and got it taken care of and replaced before they came apart.

Re: axle shafts

yup, i did blow up a rear end because of the gov=lock. but then i removed it and rebuilt the axle. shattered 2 shafts after that though...on little 33s too. so i wouldnt run aroun saying how great it is. it is the weakest axle GM uses in their trucks.
