Emissions and inspection

I will be getting my truck inspected this weekend, when I had it insepcted last it failed several times. a mechanic replaced the EGR valve and leaned the injectors and it supposedly passed, but the RPMs were lower and the emissions difference was so big that I think it may have been another car (I wasnt there for the inspection, the inpection shop did the work for the EGR too). I need some advice on what I can do to lower emissions. I am limited for cash somewhat too

When it failed the HC was high and so were the carbons. I will be doing a tune up and oil change, is there anything else I should do? I think it may be running a little rich, i can smell gas occasionally as well from the exhaust.

thanks,
Yash

Re: Emissions and inspection

I don't know how much it will help you but I understand some people will put some fuel injector cleaner directly into the throttle body to help break up some of the carbon build up. I've done it myself to see if it helps. It did smooth out my idle some so I'm guessing it worked ok. Anyone have any comments about this?

Good luck with the inspection. EGR valve should help quite a bit if it was stuck before.
