Truck was broken into
Yesterday at school someone broken into the truck and stole my new stereo. It was nothing too special, just an Alpine CD player. I had to get a new center dash piece, they took that too, and was wondering if anyone had extra vents. The stereo piece does not have the adjustable vents, just the rectangle holes.
Also, they pried the the door handle "out" I guess. I'm not sure how to break into cars but they stuck a screwdriver under the handle and pried it out a little. All of this with an alarm blaring, I'm sure . I remember seeing on ebay some kind of plate that can be put on the inside of the door that made prying harder. It was for the newer trucks but was wondering if anyone has seen anything else that can make the handle area stronger. Any suggestions would help. Thanks guys. Sorry to hear that. Where do you go to school? ( i noticed ur in Sac, im in davis). They have these plates called jimmy jammers or somethign that i have seen in catalogs. The problem is the door panel must be removed to install them if i remember right. Basically, what they did, was pry out the bottom of your handle, and from there they are able to just move the lock rods in the door and unlock it.

Re: Truck was broken into

What you saw on Ebay is called a Jimmy Jammer or something very close to that. It gets mounted between the door handle and the locking mechanism (rods, etc). I've seen them here locally for around $10.00. My door handle was also pried off. The worst part of it is the bend in the metal where the screwdriver rested. I hate looking at that thing. It's probably not noticeable to others but I can see it.

Sorry for your loss, but it's replaceable and you can protect yourself the next time.

Thats the worst thing. My mom said that she could barely see it. I think that she was trying to be nice. There is some bent metal and some flaking paint. The handle is not broken. I am going to look for the Jimmy jammers. Thanks for the quick reply. I have no problem taking off door panels if it saves the headache some other time.

Re: Truck was broken into
Darren, I go to Sac State. I parked in one of the small parking lots right next to the main building of the school. I left the truck alone for 2 hours. It was locked, had the club on and the alarm. It is really easy to take out an aftermarket deck in these trucks. Especially the older ones with the older style dash. All you have to do is pull on the deck and it is out. The whole process for the [bleep] probaly only took 2 minutes tops.

I can't find Jimmy Jammers online. I have searched all over. Any suggestions? Places to look? Has anyone ever installed them?

Re: Truck was broken into
as a person who does car unlocks for those stupid enough to lock their keys in their car, i hope you dont ever do that as you just eliminated any chance of getting into the truck without damage.
