transmission problem or trans case

hey i have a 1988 chev 5spd std 4x4 and i try to shift through the gears and theres nothing there , so i took the shifter out of the top of the transmission started the truck all the gears still turn i thought it might have broke the inputshaft but i never ....so if u have ne ideas about this please help....and the truck was in 4wheeldrive to when this happen i was goin along the road and some bum fu%ker slammed the brakes on and i had to put it back in 2nd gear and hit the brakes i managed to get stoped [img]images/graemlins/cussing.gif[/img] and then i had no gears ??? i shifted it through 4L n 2wd 4h but there was nothing it never even made a noise ? and i can shift it thro with the clutch out in all the gears but nothign happnes WHY? where should i start ? take the trans case off start lookin there ? im confusedplease help thanks

sounds like t-case shift fork to me, but thats justa guess.

put it in gear and see if your driveshafts are spinning. truck at work drove on the pavement and killed the spider gears in the differentials.

Was just wondering, could it be a stuck clutch not engaging? I've never had it happen to me but if you can put it in gear with the clutch out, maybe its not releasing.
