Re: engine rebuild ?\'s

My dads 96 has 160,000 miles when he sold it the other day. It still ran as strong as the day he bought it from the dealer. It didnt burn a drop of oil, I think it could have lasted over 200,000 miles and he ran it pretty hard.

Is yours acting up or something?

My friend has one with 298,000 miles on it, its a 98. Still smokes 33's on dry pavement - locked... never any major maintainance, just needed the spider injectors once and two fuel pump modules. Burns and leaks NO oil. You should be good for a while!

That is sooo awesome to hear! No, my engine is running perfect, a compression check sonfirmed it. Im just trying to figure out the average lifespan, sounds like a stout motor!

Re: engine rebuild ?\'s

My old truck had 225,000 miles on it when I pulled it out for a built 406. It wasn't the Vortec, tho. It still ran, used a tiny bit of oil, nothing to worry bout. If yo take care of it, it will last.

Re: engine rebuild ?\'s

350's (or 5.7l's) are very reliable engines! We had a non vortec 1995 tahoe that had over 150,000 miles and we had no major engine trouble, heck we even had the original fuel pump! Of course that isn't a vortec but they are basically the same other than the Fuel Injection system and Cylinder heads are different. Also had a 96 C2500 with a 350 that had 100,000 when we sold it, and the guy told us awhile back he had 165,000 miles and the engine was still fine but he did just have the tranny rebuilt(4L80E)
I even heard of one guy that had 400,000 miles on his 1990 with out any engine troubles or rebuilds!
