Cleaning Throttle Body

What is the best thing to clean it with? Will brake cleaner work? When I changed plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc. I took the cover off of the throttle body for easier access to cap and rotor. I noticed the throat of the throttle body wasn't shiney and slick and was kind of gummy. I'm looking for something to spray and wipe or is there a better way? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Cleaning Throttle Body

valvoline part number 071 has an intank fuel injector cleaner, Xylene intake cleaner and a spray throttle boidy cleaner. it works very well. on my 94 with the TBI i used a can of carb and choke cleaner. it worked quite well for me and i suspect it will for you also.

Re: Cleaning Throttle Body

I've use regular old carburator cleaner spray. If you have a lot of miles, you may even want to get a throttle body rebuild kit. It comes with all the gaskets, and the little filters that go on the injectors.

Re: Cleaning Throttle Body

B-12 chemtool is what I've been using. Seems to work better than carb/choke cleaner did. And if it's in the injectors and fuel injector cleaner won't work, you can always get the professionally cleaned.

Re: Cleaning Throttle Body

thats becasue the active ingredient in the B-12 chemtool is toluene, which is similar to the Xylene. both are ring compunds that belong to the same family as benzene (industrial solvent) according to Doctor Hunter (Dept. Head of Michigan State University's chemistry department) it is a great organic solvent, but inhaling vapors or combustion byproducts is illadvized. it is VERY carcenogenic. toluene isnt as bad a xylene, but over time it will gove you cool cancerous problems from what he's said and I've researched
