Check to make sure there isn't a program installed through add/remove programs that has all this "stuff".

Then check to make sure there isn't an active x component installed (those are annoying).
Go to "tools > Internet Options > Settings" and click on "objects". If it's obvious delete it. If not you can delete them all, but might get requests to load stuff you already have (like Shockwave Flash, etc.).

Set your home page to something else, or set it blank for now.

Then sue Microsoft because at some point they were supposed to remove web-downloadable software, because this tiny company called Eolas decided all of a sudden that they had a patent on it, sued MS and got lots of money. Although it is being appealed from what I understand.
