lots of ppl buy used axles and some run the gears they come with, wouldnt' that be teh same idea?

You still trying to get a matching set of 4.10's?

It wouldn't be the same as just getting a diff with them in it because once you remove the gears the setup will be changed. You'd never get them setup the same as they were and I don't think the contact patern would be perfect due to this.
Maybe it would work but I'd go new.

Actually, setting up used gears is the same as new gears. Just keep running a pattern until it pretty much matches the existing pattern, pretty simple. Then just set the backlash to the specs for a used gear set and your done.

That's cool to know!!! I didin't know there were special back lash settings for used sets. What about a new set for the front but the rear used, I'm guessing that would be ok??

I do however know you have to keep the pinion and ring gears togheater and not mix and match. On Heavy Equipment it's ok but not on vehicles. :-)

four sets opf gears i have replaced and i have always purchased new. a good used set, wouldnt be a problem i dont think, but i would magnaflux them to ensure no cracks exist, and then perform break in as though it were new. i.e. driving short distances and letting it cool back down, changing the lube often. after that though, you'll likely be perfectly fine

well i found a set of 410s for the rear. guy says only 200 miles on them and got them in a trade; they're new otherwise. the guy he traded with went up to 488s. think i'm going to try to make them mine [img]images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Have him or you take some pics of the pattern before you buy and post it up...
