Roof Panel Thickness?

I'm stil up at school, but im thinking ahead to installing my roof rack. I got a factory one from a 2 door tahoe, and I'm going to install it with well nuts. How thick is the sheet metal on the roof? I need to know what grip range i need for the well nuts. Anyone have a good idea on something to test the well nuts on? Like, something that i would have around that could be the same thickness?

Re: Roof Panel Thickness?

the roof metal is very thin actually. its the same as the shet metal used on the rest of the body. the strenght comes fromthe support rails that cross the width of the vehicle in between the roof metal and the headliner.

Re: Roof Panel Thickness?

Get the right mounting hardware from the dealer. That will solve your problems and most likely keep your roof from leaking.
