I think that you will need some kind of conversion for the u joints. I have not done this and am not for sure if it needs to be done. Maybe call some driveline shops and ask them, this will be a good thing to do before you swap the axle in seeing that you have 2wd.

Re: rear axle swap. going to 14 bolt

I'm interested in this topic, too. But first, I need the 14 bolt. I have looked looked around on the search function and didn't find much of what I was looking for. What I am wondering is what kinds of vehicles should I look for to find the 14 bolt SF axle besides heavy halves and light duty three quarters, if there are any.

blah blah blah yackity schmackity... you'll find the 6 lug 14SF in the high GVW half tons and light duty 3/4 tons. They're especially common on Z71s.

Also, you can find them in fullsize vans.
96-up 2500 series Savana/Express with 7300lb GVW (RPO C6A) has a 6-lug 14SF.

Re: rear axle swap. going to 14 bolt

I'm in the process of doing this swap myself. I have a 97 1500 4x4 though. I picked up the axle yesterday and the place helped me with the conversion joint. I needed a 1330/1350 joint. Try to find a place that deals in axles. You can also go to http://www.car-part.com and locate an axle in your area. They're not cheap but cheaper that fixing a 10 bolt over and over again.

Buddy has a couple in his yard. They are in the 88-up, 2500 light duty trucks, 2wd and 4wd. Not always the Z-71, has one of those too, and that has the 10 bolt in it. Pretty easy to tell, it has a big pumpkin for a 1/2 ton.
