Gas Cap causing code. And air bag light

A while ago when my mom had a 98 Venture Van the engine light came on and after checking into it, the gas cap wasn't on right. Kinda odd but I guess emissions?

On my 98 K-1500 once in a while the gas cap is a PITA to put on. Always wants to cross tread or something. Sometimes I'll think it's ok but then a couple miles later the stupid light comes on. I will then remove and re-install the cap and then couple miles later it's ok. Any ideas why the cap is always wanting the cross thread? I've even tried hard to get it on right and it goes cross.

I just hate it because that orange light and the red one arn't cool to see at night. Don't want to pull the bulb or tape it.

My air bag light is on?? Been on ever since the spring when my truck went into a DEEEEP puddle. Any ideas what to check without setting the stupid thing off? I beleave it won't deploy, that's what the service guy at a garage said once. No money to scan it at this second.

Thanks for any help.

Here in Texas when you get an instpection they test your gas cap. Maybe yours is bad. Go see what a new one would cost. I think the cap is plastic so if your having problems with the thread i bet it is the cap and not the filler neck.
