95 tranny- 700R4 or 4l60E??

Hey, looking at buying a 95 GMC Yukon with high miles- wondering which tranny 95 trucks had? Had to replace a 4l60e in my 97 Z-71- wasn't cheap! i know the 700 is much cheaper to replace.

Yah, the 4l60e isn't very strong.....

People say it holds up well if you start off with a huge tranny cooler though.....

Mine is about to go out, it slips into 1st...

Re: 95 tranny- 700R4 or 4l60E??

I just replaced mine last weekend. I put in a reman 4L60E. I had the shop i got it from put heavy clutch plates and a beefier torque converter on it to make it a little stronger. I think you can put the 700R4(or whatever the hell it is) or the 4L80E in the truck but the shop told me it would be easiest and best to stick with what i have. I spent about $1200-$1300 just on the trans. You might think about changing the rear main seal if your going to change the trans. I just changed mine as well as the oil pan seal and the seal on thing that holds the oil filter. Hope this helps! Good Luck!
