AC Delco Battery = crap?

Well, this is the seond time in as many Chevy trucks that I've had to replace the AC Delco battery because the positive terminal corroded and leaked acid.

This time it managed to go long enough to completely pull the terminal out of the battery. And guess what? The warranty I bought on a used truck doesn't cover corrosion. Can't say I'm surprised...

So, we'll see what happens when I gotta replace the positive cables to the battery because there's no metal left to make contact.

Anyway, is this a common problem with AC Delco batteries? I just got this truck several months ago and this just happens? Bah. Sorry. Needed to vent. Picked up an Optima red top because they don't leak acid!

Now I'm considering using that other tray in my engine bay and putting in some battery toys to keep two of 'em happy.

Re: AC Delco Battery = crap?

As far as i know, it's the side post design thats flawed. Haven't really heard other complaints on the delco stuff though.....

Re: AC Delco Battery = crap?

Last april I had to get rid of my acdelco battery because of the positive wire that caused an acid leak. It was a side post mounted battery. In replace of it, I got two red top optima batteries.

Re: AC Delco Battery = crap?

I've never had any abnormal problems like that with Delco batteries.
I have an Energizer in my truck now, and its not too bad.

Now Mopar batteries on the other hand, definitely = crap.

Re: AC Delco Battery = crap?

My AC Delco batt had the same positive side post leak. The dealer sold me a DayStarter batt with a 5 year unconditional free replacement guaranty. It crapped out 2 weeks ago at almost 3 years old so they gave me a new one free...and the 5 yr warranty starts all over again.

Re: AC Delco Battery = crap?

Thanks all for your replies. Maybe, it seems that when the truck has to flex at all the battery either sloshes too much or yanks on the positive cables.

At any rate, I got one red top Optima. Yukon97 are you using any special brand of isolator or anything to keep the batteries apart? What worked for you?

Re: AC Delco Battery = crap?

The only thing I have done is that I have the negative wire grounded to the drivers side quarter panel, and then grounded to the top of the engine... refer to picture to better explain..... Positive is connected to the main positive post on the passenger sides battery. I hope this helps.

Re: AC Delco Battery = crap?

Works great with stock alt. but I am ordering a mean green alt on monday. Hopefully for xmas I will get dual electric fans, and then I will "hide" the positive wire so it wont be as visible.
