just checking here before i drive home to find out, do you think the alternator off of my 96 350 will fit onto my current 94 4.3? i think they probably will, and I'd rather have the high-output alternator that came with the dual battery/z-71 package. i might never need the extra amperage, but it'll be nice to have in case i do need it.

umm, i should look up the numbers on one of the websites and post back. anyway, is the 94 vortec? i *think* it might make a difference...anyway, i'll check numbers...

i checked part numbers, but they don't match up. i think the mounting holes might be off.

Look at them if you get a chance. More than likely the only difference will be is the connector, if anything. The "newer" ones have most of the core of the alternator showing whereas the old ones had most of it hidden. I know there is a GM part you can buy to put the new alternators on old vehicles.

ok, i wasn't sure about 4.3. i know my sis' '95 is vortec, but before that, no clue.

I don't think they will work because the 95 and earlier are one-wire alternators. The Vortech motor got one of those alternators with a crap load of wires coming off of it. I could be wrong though.

ahhh but the 94 is a vortec......

the 4.3 engines have ah vortex heads on them for a looong time. sicne the eighties i think. i did not however have the CSFI fuel delivery system that came out in 96 along with the OBDII and the dreaded dex-cool. I"ll have to check them out to see about the swap. i was hoping for a definitive answer from here, but alas it is not so. i didnt figure too many people had done a similar swap but it was worth a shot.

yup, mine came with duals when i got it. only time i ever needed it was to jump start myself...which wasn't too necessary considering it was a manual, but still much nicer than pushing the truck by myself
