Re: Putting 350 5.7 Vortec (96-00) in a 94 2dr Yukon
An afforable idea is to upgrade your current 94 Yukon engine to Vortec heads. The Vortec heads flow much better, and produce more horsepower than the 94 Yukon TBI heads. The 94 Yukon TBI will flow only 505 CFM, so using a 600 CFM TBI is also a good idea when using the Vortec heads on a 94 Yukon engine. Edelbrock and GM now offer a TBI intake manifold for the Vortec heads.
I must admit, a complete Vortec engine swap would be very cool. If I were to swap out an engine for a 94 Yukon, I'd start with the 350 short block assembly from a 90 - 94 Police Caprice. The 90 - 94 Police Caprice 350 will have a one piece rear main seal, four bolt main block, and a roller camshaft / lifer. Then I'd add the Vortec heads. The 90 - 94 Police 350 uses a different camshaft, so I'd also use the Police camshaft, which if I'm remembering correctly is a Sealed Power part# CS808. The Police TBI used high flow injectors, so I'd use them in the 600 CFM TBI. I'd then get a custom PROM chip. My idea might not be as cool as a Vortec engine swap, but I'd have money left over and still equal or exceed the Vortec engine performance.
