\'96 Suburb, grind in reverse

OK...everybody did so good on the check engine light, let's try to fix my last problem.
2-3 times a week when you put it in reverse, it sounds like it pops into "park". (GOD AWFUL SOUND). If you slam the brakes on, it still does it for a second or two. ONCE, when I pulled into a sloping parking space (sloping down in the front) and put it in park, it popped/banged. I discovered that if you pull it down into D or 2 and then back to reverse it won't do it. Preveious owner had a repair shop put in a new encoder motor (thanks!!) obviously that wasn't the problem. Parking pawl loose? No, haven't pulled the pan yet. Haven't heard of this before, any ideas?

This may be a long shot, but your TPS (throttle position sensor) may be causing it. I had a similar problem, only it was going into drive instead of reverse. I had to pull it into neutral and let it roll before engaging drive or it would jerk through gears. Run a diagnostic check on it and see if it comes up.
