I have a 97 suburban 1500 and the A/c will not shut off. I removed the belt and the clutch to the compressor is fine. I have to remove the fuse to kill the a/c compressor. Anyone else have the same problem? [img]images/graemlins/cussing.gif[/img]

If its not the defroster running, then it sounds like you may have a bad cycling switch. While the truck is running and the compressor is stuck on, try pulling the plug on the switch that is mounted on the reciever/dryer. If your compressor stops then, you need to replace that particular switch. Some newer trucks also have an overload switch on the compressor itself, that may be defective also. The switches are dirt cheap and may be good insurance to replace them both - if both exist. Let me know what you find out.

When the defroster is on the compressor cycles on and off. Alot of people will use there defroster on a cold morning, then just turn the fan off but leave the selector over on the defrost still which causes the compressor to cycle on and off all day while you drive and if there not aware of the cycling during defrost it will cause them to think there is osmething wrong...

Check your compressor relay. Should be on the firewall. Look for a relay with pink, dk green/white, orange, and dk green. Pink is hot with key on. Dk green/white is the ground path to "excite the relay. Orange is hot with the key on and is the "main" feed for the A/C. Dk green should be "dead" with A/C off and hot with A/C on. If it's stuck, it should "not" click. Try looking for another one on the firewall with the same number and swap them out.
