I was just curious how hard it would be to convert my 95' Tahoe from a auto tranny to a manual. I am going to be pulling the motor in a few months to drop in the motor I built for it and I figured if it is not to hard or costly I would like a manual much better than a auto. Any thoughts would be nice, thanks.

i was gonna do that when the tranny in mine went south, so i got me a beefy manual (nv4500) out of a one ton, well as i found out later one ton stuff doesn't bolt up to 1/2 ton, so i ended up rebuilding the auto anyways. (never fear, i found a new home for the nv4500)
im assuming yours is a 1/2 ton like mine, so you would have to go with an nv3500 which ive heard good and bad about. or you would have to get a one ton transfer case if you go nv4500 and the lenght on that is different enough that you would have to get the drive shafts lenghts adjusted.
in any case, youll also need the stick (no duh) brake pedal (narrower than auto) clutch pedal and linkage (i believe theyre all hydraulic) and i don't know if your puter is gonna be fricking out or not if you just unplug it from the tranny and let it hang.

You will have to have the computers prgrammed reflashed to one for a manual tranny truck. No big deal.

Clutch is all hydro so it's just a matter of removing the grommet plug in the firewall and bolting the slave cylinder up to it and hang a pedal off of it and change the brake pedal as mentioned.

Any GM tranny will bolt up to the engine, you will need one with an electronic VSS though, so an older one may or may not work depending on if you want to adapt it. Will need the manual tranny wiring harness from the computer as well since the auto tranny one won't work with it. Also need the flywheel.

Driveshaft will have to be lengthened/shortened front and rear.

Crossmember will need to be obtained for the manual tranny and mount it where it goes and remove the auto one, may be the same crossmember and just moved to a different spot.

The NV4500 may or may not have a 29 spline rear output as some do but not sure about all which won't mate up to your stock t-case without an input shaft change, or an output shaft change on the tranny. Then again, I'm not sure what spline count the 1/2 tons use, 1 tons are 32.

Also going to need a manual steering colum unless you want to leave your auto shifter just hanging. Going to need the floor bezel and boot for the floor shifter and cut the hole in the floor. Probably going to need to re-route the t-case shifter rod since I think the sticks use a different bracket but maybe not...

Out of curiousity was there EVER a Tahoe made with a stick in it? Also if he's gonna need a crossmemeber for the manual box, where's he gonna find one for the Tahoe frame?

Yea, I am not sure if there ever was a Tahoe that came from the factory a manual. I will be calling around to local junkyards to see what I can find. I think a setup out of a suburban will work, but I'm not sure.

When I was looking to buy my tahoe (about 2 years ago) I saw one on the internet that was manual. But it could have been a typo on the website.
