According to chevys website the 5.3 now has 295HP and 330lbs of torque... And the 4.8 has 285HP and 295lbs of torque.... How did they manage this?

Re: 04\'s got more power??

I would imagine that they just improved the intake air flow by a little, and adjusted the flow rate of the injectors. Possibly a newly designed intake, or exhaust system.... could be a lot of things really...

I mean, look at all the aftermarket stuff that you yourself can put on to make those engines breathe better and produce more ponies. GM can do that too... they just have to make sure they stay within their production specs for EPA ratings and such.

I work at an AC-Delco parts warehouse, and I have access to the GM parts imager computer. When I go in on Monday, I will see what kinds of things they changed to boost the performance of the engine. I'll keep ya posted. Re: 04\'s got more power??

All i can say is we just picked up a 01 Tahoe with the 5.3, and all its got on it is an exhaust system. I was REALLY impressed with the 5.3 - i thought it was going to be a dog after the 2 350's in our other trucks, one vortec and one tbi. Anyways, any more power would be sweet, and the 2000 and newer truck seem so much lighter anyways, it makes for a pretty quick line of trucks and suv's from GM. If only they weren't IFS....

Re: 04\'s got more power??

Hey that will be cool thanks...
I test drove a 2001 Z71 ext cab... 5.3L I really didnt want to because it was out of my price range... But the dealer insisted, it had alot punch... But the A/C didnt work, AND it was 6,000 more than it worth... It rode like a babys ass, smooooooth... I don't care if they have IFS anymore... If your that hard on a truck than well you will be breaking more than CV's... Besides if you want to rockcrawl get a jeep.
