285/75/16 on an aftermarket 16x7 wheel

So I've searched the archives and found that a 285/75/16 won't fit under a non-lifted Sierra unless it's on the stock GMC wheel.

American Racing makes their Tailgunner series wheel in a 16x7. It's a 6 lug/5.5 bolt pattern. It has a 0mm offset and the backside spacing is 4in/102mm.

Can I get a 285/75/16 tire on this 16x7 American Racing wheel and make it fit on my non-lifted 1998 Sierra?

Yes they will fit. I have 16x8 wheels with 4 1/2" bs and 285/75 tires. All you have to do is trim the fenders a little. you shoudnt even need to trim since you are using 16x7" wheels

Re: 285/75/16 on an aftermarket 16x7 wheel

From what I've read here, a 285/75/16 will fit on the stock 16x7 wheel without rubbing. The stock wheel has a 5.5" backspacing.

If I'm putting a 285/75/16 on a 16x7 wheel with 4" backspacing, am I still going to need to trim the fenders? Isn't the 4" backspacing less than the 5.5" backspacing?
