OT - Car for Grandma

ok people, need some input here. Grandma is in the market for a newer car and seeing as I know nothing about 'em, any suggestions?? She's got about $10k to spend on it. Its gotta be reliable, affordable, of course, Grandma-driing-error-tested too. Right now, she's driving an '86 Lincoln Continental, so, anything will be a change than from what she's driving.

Re: OT - Car for Grandma

good buddy of mine just picked up a 2003 cavalier for 10K. only downside i see is that the eco-tech engine uses a cartridge type oil filter that requires a 32mm wrench/socket to remove. other than that i dont see what would be too bad about it (aside from all the car-like attributes)

also have a friend that purchased a new kia spectra a bit cheaper than that....great warranty and as far as i can tell, not that bad a ride either....all things considered. it does have some pretty small 13" roller skate wheels on it. those might be a couple of avenues to persue though.

Re: OT - Car for Grandma

I checked out carmax.com....the cavalier might be a good way to go. found a 99 w/ 14k for around 8900. It's nothing special inside, but it has AC, ABS, cloth seats,...stuff that will keep her comfy without breaking the bank on a crazy lux package the exterior is a decent style, 4 drs, good mileage.... AJM and i chatted about them a little bit too. i know my friends tortured theirs in HS and they kept on kickin'

Re: OT - Car for Grandma

I think she should buy a black, Z28 Camaro, preferably one previously owned by an officer of the law... If only we knew someone with such a car available for purchase.

Re: OT - Car for Grandma

I grew up near a retirement town, and there was an old lady that drove one of those race cars, like on that old show Hardcastle and McCormick.
