99 GMC Z71

I just purchased a 1999 GMC Z71. I am getting a intermittent message (service forewheel drive) on the message center in the dash board. Is this message generated from a milage program or is it a fault? The dealer says it was seviced and they can't check it unless the massage is active when the look at it.

Re: 99 GMC Z71

I'm getting the exact same thing in my 99 Silverado Z71, And it is real random, sometimes it just comes on for no reason. I'm taking it to get it hooked up to a scan tool when I got on Spring break in two weeks. But someone told me that, the light didn't have to be on to check it, because the PCM stores all trouble codes until the system is reset. Let me know if you get it fixed or what is causing the light.

Thanks

Re: 99 GMC Z71

Here you go...hope it helps.

Long story short, try to get your diagnostics codes run for free, and go from there.

Re: 99 GMC Z71

Yeah...same thing with Bignuts...er....Bossnads....that other dude. I'm curious to know what you guys get done.

I'm gonna call my dealership today and see how much they charge to run the codes for me, too. A good diagnostic tool is a couple hundred bucks. Sorry, no-can-do right now. I have the ever dreadful "strange knocking sound" going on for awhile now. Rather than try to test all possibilities in fuel and spark land, then go onto the whole emissions system, I want to try and narrow it down first.

Let me know what you guys do, too.
