Re: Time for a new truck

Well what are you looking for? 73-87? 88-94? 95-98? 99-present? Vortech engines came in in 96. Solid axles ended in 87. 87 was the first year of TBI. I think a 98 would be my favourite IFS, or any 80-87.

Kevin,
95-98, Bodies are cooler, and vortecs are very nice. I was thinking 97, how are they different from 98's?

I say the 81-87, although 82 and up had the weak 700R4, also they rusted out the worst.

Re: Time for a new truck

How are the 95-98 bodies cooler? Also don't forget the new interior in 95...for some reason I've always liked the older ones, like the 88-93's with the thin grille stripes and the old dash...I have no idea why, maybe I've seen too many of the new ones and its a change?

Re: Time for a new truck

Grandpa used to have a 94, never did like the square dash. Plus he had bench seats, yuck. I've awlways liked our 95, but then again a 96 would have been better. If I'm not mistaken they had a 5.7L vortec, which isn't available now. Or was it only a 5.3L available then?

Re: Time for a new truck

A 96 would have had the option of a 5.7. The 5.3's didn't show up until I guess 99 with the new body styles. I have a 5.7 vortec in my 97, and a 5.3 vortec in our 01 Tahoe. The 5.3 is supposed to make about 20 or so more hp, but I think that my 5.7 would spank it like a redheaded stepchild. I believe the 5.3 makes less torque than the 5.7, but I don't remember the numbers.

Re: Time for a new truck

i like the 81-87 generation with the grille update from the 88-91 1tons/suburbans/blazers. you'll probably want to get a 3/4 ton without the computer.

the 77's were unique with the oddball gold molding. i like the pre 73 generation too (especially with a big block).

for IFS, i'm a fan of the 88-93 generation (before the computer took over everything). i like that body style only second to the 81-87. i like the interior to those ones too. the 88-90 generation with the independent headlights i like better than composite. i also like the year 1990 deluxe bench seat.

the girlie trucks started in 1996.

Re: Time for a new truck

They still had seperated headlights in '90? This girl I know has a '90 with the composite ones...and a bench seat...maybe they changed mid-year...I'd say 89-91 were good years...they still had the badass K5 body style, but the earlier trucks...
