oil leak.

anyone ever had a front main seal leak on a '97 or '98 truck? what can i expect to pay to get that fixed?
uhhh....where's it located? ( besides in the front)
will it get worse if i don't fix it right away?
is there anything else that could be leaking aroung this area of the front main seal?
is the repair time consuming?
what might have caused it? hard acceleration, towing, or just high mileage?

Re: oil leak.

Are you sure it's not the oil cooler lines? Very common and leaves a puddle under the left front of the engine. I've got one on my garage floor right now.

Re: oil leak.

as in the driver's side? the sway bar and relay rod and other steering linkages below the fan and belt assembly are all coated with oil. the skidplate is all oily and it drips on the driverside. becuz of where it's coming from i thought it was the power steering pump but it's motor oil.
so the oil cooler lines are on the driver side betweem the radiator and engine?

Re: oil leak.

The engine oil hookups are on the driver's side.

Re: oil leak.

how are these lines connected? screw clamps, tension type like the stock radiator hoses or some other way? i guess i'll rule those out when i get a chance. hopefully it's just hoses.

Re: oil leak.

They should look like your tranny lines(metal w/ flanged end) on both ends with some rubber hose in the middle.

Re: oil leak.

Yeah, the ones on the black truck are leakin right now. I have the new lines in the garage but I'm too lazy. Thats more than likely your problem dreamer. Where your oil filter screws on will be a plate with two hoses coming out. These hoses go to the radiator. There well known for leaking. Cost me 32 dollars in parts from GM to get both hoses, new connectors, and new gaskets.
