I was on my way into work this morning and put my truck into reverse and it went about 4 feet and it stopped immediately. I tried it again hoping that It was just my imagination and it did it again. You give it gas and it just doesn't want to move. All the forward gears work fine. Does anyone know what it might be before I spend the $$$ to get it looked at? Thanks.

About 6 months ago mine did the same thing. Only happenned 3 or 4 times, never did it again.

Keep an eye on your fluid level and if you're due for service (transmission flush), take it to a transmission shop and pick their brains a little while they flush it.

For what it's worth, I just had mine rebuilt (front pump seal went bad). I figured with 150k on the current tranny, I'd better get the whole thing redone. I can't say if that reverse thing was a sign of things to come, but it wouldn't hurt to talk to a shop. Good luck.

It seems like what ever it was it did the same thing as yours. It stopped on Sunday. I checked all the fluids and everything is fine. I am going to go get it flushed though. Did you ever find out what was causing it to not continue in reverse?

yes the sun gear shell cracked. it's an aluminum housing for the sun gear. my fluid looked fine too but the dip stick won't lift out chunks of broken parts. you'd have to lower the pan for that. if it's not a linkage or servo problem i assume it's this.
