BODY LIFT???? YES OR NO????

hey im THINKING of buying a body lift for my 1998 chev silverado, the problem with getting a suspension is that its gonna toooo expensive, looking towards 3000 cdn.. the truck is 8 lug and has auto trac, i belive.(not completly sure, have to check) ANYWAYs if i was to put on a 3 inch body lift and get new shocks would this make a ride difference??? any way to make a change in the ride of the truck off road with just a body and new shocks somthing like that, not a complete suspension lift???
any help is really really appreciated, thanks alot, Greg.

Re: BODY LIFT???? YES OR NO????

Body lift won't affect your ride at all, except raise your center of gravity to make ya a right bit tippy! Anyway, new shocks will change ride, but that may be bad or good, depending on brands you choose.

Re: BODY LIFT???? YES OR NO????

For shocks I would go with Bilsteins. And I think that will be the one most everyone else will tell you to go with. I know AJM will.

Re: BODY LIFT???? YES OR NO????

Yep, Bilstein HD's. All a body lift does is exactly what it says, BODY LIFT. The body is lifted above the frame 3". Shocks stay put, suspension stays put. Everything stays put except for the radiator, brake master cylinder and a few hoses raise up a little. oh and you'll have to weld in an extension into your tranny shifter, no biggie, any shop will do it for like 5 bucks. Why do you want new shocks, just to make it "softer" offroad or something?? I would imagine on a '98 your bilsteins are still good.

Re: BODY LIFT???? YES OR NO????

its a 3/4 ton truck, im not sure if that makes any difference in the shocks between this truck and the z71's but i thought if i had new shocks put in it would make the truck go over bumps easier.
thanks for the info.
would you recomend the body lift then???
thanks

Re: BODY LIFT???? YES OR NO????

I recommend body lift! Only eye sore is the gap between bed and frame in the rear. If you can get over than then there should be nothing holding you back. New shocks wont nessessaryl get you over bumps better. Good luck.

You can take care of the gap between bed and frame, just look at my gap guard post.
