TBI

Just wanted to let any of you who have more than 125k on your TBI, I rebuilt mine today and it cleared up quite a few problems.

1. It actually starts on the first try.
2. No check engine light for a lean condition.
3. You don't have to kick it to get it to break off idle.
4 Lost that vibration at 55. I know one of you had the same problem.

If anyone's interested I got specs.

Maybe this'll help someone.

If it don't fit force it, and if all else fails get a bigger hammer!

Re: TBI

mines got 200 something, bought the truck with 187k and after about a year it was over 200, then I got a guage cluster off a truck that had 150 something, then turned that over a few miles then the odometer quick and lately Ive noticed it bounce back words I dont know when it quit.

so 200k something is all I know stock motor and tranny

Id bett that shudeering was from the TBI gasket sucking air, I ve replaced that quite a few times on mine, other than that Ive just pulled the tbi unit off and cleaned it realy well

you had to kick it down from fast idle?? I didnt think the computer could just be kicked down like that well atleast mine wont kick down from fast idle, I mean when its idleing fast

Re: TBI

I just rebuilt mine about a year ago at 190k. It had a really erratic idle, lacked power, and wouldn't start very well. The entire pcv system was totally plugged up as well as the rest of the TBI. I was kind of suprised at how much crap had built up in it. Also had a shop rebuild the rest of it with new springs and gaskets. Made a huge difference in performance.

Re: TBI

My '89 had 109k miles when I bought it in '95, now it has 213k. I'm having a new timing chain put in over spring break and it also needs a new master cylinder. I'd do the master cylinder if I knew how, the brake system has never been my specialty. Anyone got any helpful tips for the master cylinder?
