torsion bars&shackle kit

Since reading all the posts here about the t bar& shackle lift, I have decided to to this mod myself. What size of shackles should I use to get 2" on the back? what size are the stock shackles? Also has anyone had to replace their vaccum switch on the t case? my 4X4 won't engage, the indicator light isn't on when in 4x4, so I am hoping this switch is the problem($$).. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Anyone here from Calgary?

thanks, Jake

Re: torsion bars&shackle kit

This is a VERY common problem with the S-series trucks, check under your battery for a vaccum diaphram, and check the vaccum hose VERY carefully, if in doubt replace it, them check your shift cable (from diaphram to diff) theres little clips on the ends of the cable there prone to break, if thats in order, then check to see that when it is put into 4x mode that everything is working smoothy(acuatatuater working , moving shift cable) I even went as far as removing the 3 bolts that mount the input for the mechinsim, and tried to pull it apart, luckley with no luck, If all that works, then you might concider the vaccum switch is the problem.

Or for a $100 you could replace the vacuum stuff with a cable operated system that has a handle that mounts under your dash (sticking out by your knee) and NEVER have to worry about a vacuum failure again. When you want to go into four wheel, just give the handle a pull and away you go!!

hey, i think that the cable operated hubs are your best bet, if you do decide to go for it, you want the posi-lock, you can get it from jc whitney, www.jcwhitney.com. BTW i'm just north of red deer.

The switch is a dealer-only but less than $30. It takes a 7/8 or 15/16 wrench (or a standard switch socket). The hard part is getting to it as it resides on top of the t-case.

Sheddog, when you go to check you vacum actuator it won't be under the battery if you have a 2.8, its only under there in the 88&up 4.3 models. your actuator will be locater on the fender on the passenger side.
