Weekend Wheeling Carnage (with pics)

Well, a few friends and I went up to Gladwin for a weekend of wheeling. Once we got everyone up there, things were going good. We went for a nice ride, nothing to bad. For the first run, we had my 89 S-10, a 85 full size Blazer on 35s, and a Samuri on like 32s. Well, the guy with the blazer got himself stuck, fell in some big ruts. Nasty sand in the hole, that acts like a suction cup kept him in there when the Samuri was pulling on him. So we dug him out and I had a go at it. Gave a couple good pulls, nothing. So i set up for a nice 15' run with out about 60' tow strap, 2 30's together. popped him out of the hole, but also decided to bend my rear tube bumper... it now lookes like a V. kind of neat. bent my rear mounts, and the back of my frame to the leaf spring mount.
Well, the next day, he got stuck again, somehow...I made it thru in 2wd, but he got stuck somehow. same type of sandy muck. well, we tried and tried to get him out. with my damaged bumper not much good, we wrapped a chain around the mounts and put a clevis around the chain to hold the strap. well, i gave her a good tug - the chain broke, sent the clevis flying into his radiator! all the spectators were standing clear... so we ended up getting a coupld hand winches, and slowly cranked him out, then cranked him onto the trailer... it only took like 4 hours to get him out. he has been planning on 44s, he has them actually, and now will probably want them on real soon....
sorry for the long post, but it was kind of exciting weekend, seen some other stupid stuff too, but ill save that until i get the pictures...

Re: Weekend Wheeling Carnage

Well, I see you've found the weakest link of the S10! DAMN! That bumper looks like a "U"! My 85 has suffered a similar act of carnage, but nothing that severe! I plan on seroiusly reinforcing the frame when I do the SFA conversion.
I have a H.D. rear bumper, but now I question the strength of the frame its bolted to! Well, I hope you can get the frame straight again and repair the bed mounts! Good luck!

Re: Weekend Wheeling Carnage (with pics)

That's exactly I built my bumper out of 3" schedule 80 pipe. I hate it when things like that happen. Have a look.
