Tranny / T-Case Combos

For an S10 that is going to have a SB350 Powerplant, F*rd 9in rear axle, and D44 or 9in front axle, what is the best Transmission / Transfer Case combo?

I'm leaning towards an NV4500/NP205 Combo because both units are 'bullet proof.' The only problem I can see on this combo is the weight of both units.

Re: Tranny / T-Case Combos

The NP205 won't work unless you were to use a GM 6 or 8 lug Dana 44 front with the diff. on the passengers side. IMHO, the NP231 that came factory behind the 4.3L S10's will support even a stroker motor! An NP205 has a lousy low-range 2:1, compared to the 231's 2.72:1 and since its cast-iron it weighs a ton! Not a good thing in an S10! Get a 231 that came behind a 700 and it will bolt right up to a TH350/400 with the fac. adapter. Just ask Mark Hall about how the 231 holds up under high-horsepower/ large tire combos. He's running the stock 231 in his Bad-Bowtie still, behind a TH475!
* Also, TH350's can be made bullet-proof pretty cheaply, but a TH400 is Bullet-Proof from the factory. NV4500's are pretty expensive, plus all the ones I've seen are made for Dodge trucks or Jeeps. Stick with an auto, and a trans. cooler.

Re: Tranny / T-Case Combos

Or if you want to get off the wall I have a t-case from a humvee that I'll sell you it bolts up to the th400.
The t-case is a np218 and if you go to transfercases.com you will see that a rebuilt unit sells for over $1000....
