700R4 Problems

I have a '91 S-10 with a 4.3L and a 700R4. As of the last couple days it has been having problems shifting. When you hit the gas and it downshifts, the motor will rev but the acceleration won't match. It just kinda revs and does nothing. It also won't upshift until you let off the gas. Any ideas? I am stuck. Thanks for any input.

Check the fluid. You're checking it for color and level. If it looks/smells burnt, then change the fluid and filter and see if it improves. If the level of fluid is low, fill it to the appropriate mark... Might also check the kickdown linkage.

Already checked both. Checked the tv cable. Trans fluid appears and smells fine.

Re: 700R4 Problems

Just wandering when you checked the fluid level did you check it with the engine warm and running with the trannie in Park or nutral or did you check it with the engine off
With automatics they useally say somewhere to check the fluid with vehical running and warm cause then you get an accuarate reading when the engine is of your fluid may appear to be at the right level but when engine is running it'll read lower
if it checks out you may have a bad converter or a pump going bad in the frount of the trannie
whitch if that's the case you may be better off replaceing the trannie

www.atsgmiami.com/

Here's a site to buy a tranny manual and fixit yourself. 20 bucks per manual. Not a quality hard cover manual but covers diagnostics, teardown, rebuild and specs.
