4x wants to engage on own

On my '92 Sonoma the front diff. sounds like it wants to engage on it's own it makes a constant gringing noise, the faster i drive the higher pitch it gets. It only happends when the truck's been sitting for a while, and only if the initial movement is driving forwards. Then when I come to a total stop it makes a clunck noise and I don't have The problem any more. The outside temp. doesn't have any effect. If I backup first then there is a noise. It hasn't happened in a while cause i don't back in anymore. Any Ideas, All knowledge welcome.

#3 Dale Earnhardt, the memory will live on.
