<font face="Comic Sans MS">As far as I know, the 4 cylinder does not have the same bell housing as the smallblock chevy (4.3L and bigger) group... One of the guys here will correct me if I'm wrong very soon.. Another thing you could do might be to try calling up a GM dealership. They might be helpful with you. Another thing you could do is call up your local parts yard and see if they'll look in their magic book of interchange numbers to see if they'll interchange... But the easiest method would be to hang on here for a little while and someone will either correct what I've said or agree with it... Re: Trannie Swap?

The 4.3 powered S10's used a completely different 5 speed than the 4 cyl and the 2.8 ones. The 4.3 ones use one with an integral bellhousing, wheras the 2.8 and 4 cyl.s use a non-integral bellhousing. The Borg-Warner T5 is not strong enough nor will it bolt up to the 4.3L. The 4.3 ones used an New Venture 3500(same as 1500 trucks) that was labelled as a Muncie.

Re: Trannie Swap?

I think they were all full-size heavy duty trucks...

I've got the NV3500 on my '98 4.3 and it runs like a freaking champ. And I put it through the motions, let me tell ya!

My only gripe is that the shift "throw" is so long. I need to find a short throw shifter so I can shift more with my wrist and less with my shoulder!
