I have an 85 and have yet to see anything resembling a computer in mine. With one exception. The ignition module. This, however only fires the spark and doesn't do anything other than that. You cannot use a chip to upgrade performance, and you cannot use a TBI on it (unless you get one of their digital fuel injection setups.) It's carbuerated stock.

Re: does the 85 S-10...

i was a little tired when i posted that - i had just gotten back from a custom car show - no lifted S-10 4x's there at all - anyway Edlebrock, Holley and a few others were there - i also spoke to the TM rep - he told me to call him this week and ask about the 5 inch kit - he may be able to get for me lower than mail-order - woo-hoo

ok since the 3.4L uses the same intake manifold as the 2.8L (i think i dont remember a new intake man. on the bill) can i swap for a 4.3L intake manifold and do injection or carb that way?

id just like to get a bit more performance outta the beast without ripping the engine apart.

It does have a computer. It is mounted behind the glovebox.

What does the computer do then? On mine I can't find anything that would go to a computer. Re: does the 85 S-10...

the Chevy mech told me theres no computer on the carbed 85 S-10. he did tell me tho to find a later model (88 or so) 2.8L and get all the stuff from the fuel injection and then i can put a Holley TBI on it - i might look into that route.

Re: does the 85 S-10...

No computer on 2.8's till 1986 with TBI. Makes the pre-86s prime candidates for a carbed engine swap though, less wiring! 86-93 2.8L TBI s-series are the most prevalent in the boneyards! Sounds like a cheap upgrade. Good luck.

Re: does the 85 S-10...

I could be wrong, but my '83 had some kind of silver box with wires running to it behing the glovebox.
